Poem: The Rut

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut? Like your dreams are unreachable, lost in a void somewhere?

Me too. I felt like that a few weeks back, and out popped this poem. Hope y’all enjoy it!

TheRut

Feet buried in the mud,

Taking this familiar path again.

The one I know is safe,

My net a growing rut.

Hopes buried in the ground,

Taking the familiar advice again.

We have to do what is safe.

We must never jump.

But my feet are made of springs,

Springs that drown in the rut.

But to have hopes and dreams,

That’s just asking for too much.

Sights set on the prize,

Mind grounded in reality.

Gravity persists,

But I trudge on.

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.
