Hey there, Arrowheads! This week, we’re just going to have a little fun. I’ve fallen behind on my blogging schedule as far as pre-scheduling goes, and so in all honesty, this post may be a little unorganized because I’ve dedicated more time to writing On the Flip Side over the past week. So, I’m just going to do a Q and A about my reading preferences, because I’m not sure if I’ve ever talked about those here on Authoring Arrowheads. 🙂

What’s my favorite genre?

In years past, I’ve gravitated more towards contemporary YA romance, either Christian or mainstream. However, over the past few years, I’ve really enjoyed some historical fiction (especially set in the mid-20th century), dystopian, and mysteries/thrillers. So now, I’m not sure if I even have a favorite genre; really, despite what genre the book is, if I like it, I like it.

What’s my favorite format to read? (eBook, paperback, hardcover, or audio book)

Before I got my Kindle back in 2018, I preferred to read paperbacks, because they were less expensive to buy. Now, I’ve become an avid hunter of Kindle eBook deals, so they are my favorite to read. But, if money was no object, I would have a full library of hardcovers. I get kinda jealous of all those gorgeous shelves with nothing but hardcovers on Bookstagram. 🙂

Do I read nonfiction?

YES! I’ve actually craved reading some nonfiction books sometimes over the past couple years. My favorite nonfiction genres are Christian theology (ex: Earth’s Last Empire by John Hagee), Christian mental health (ex: Get Out of Your Head by Jennie Allen), Christian memoirs (ex: I Can Only Imagine by Bart Millard, memoirs of famous creatives (ex: Me, Myself, and Bob by Phil Vischer), and, once in a while, books on writing and self-publishing (ex: Save the Cat! Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody).

What’s my least favorite trope?

For the most part, I don’t particularly hate any tropes (like I said, if a book is well-written and character driven, I really don’t care about tropes), but one thing I CANNOT STAND is when a couple in a book “falls in love” at first sight for no other reason than “we’re both hot and should date”.

I’m pretty sure that’s not a trope per se, but it bugs me to no end. True love is not founded on physical appearance.

What’s my favorite trope?

Again, I don’t read specifically for tropes, but I’ve always loved a good friends-to-lovers or enemies-to-lovers story. As long as I can root for the characters and there isn’t any crazy amount of vulgar content, I’m game for most anything.

What are my Top Ten Favorite Books (as of March 2022, because sometimes I switch it up 😛 )?

Who is my favorite author?

This is a hard question for me to answer, because there are several authors whose books are auto-buys for me. If you would have asked me in years past, it would have been Nicholas Sparks, hands down (I mean, he wrote my favorite book of all-time), but these days, I’m leaning more toward Jenny B. Jones, especially since she has been a huge writing inspiration for me as well. She is also hilarious and gave the world Mad Maxine in her Katie Parker Productions series, so that gave her a lot of bonus points. XD
