Because, my dear, sweet Arrowheads, it’s finally The Fall‘s release week!

And, as such, today I’d like to celebrate with a little surprise… 😉

Instead of going my traditional route and posting all of Chapter One, I decided to switch things up some, since there are some definite spoilers for The Crush in The Fall‘s first chapter.

Excerpt from The Fall (The Ballad of Emery Brooks, #2) Chapter Three:

The wall decorations vibrate as the backdoor slams. Marching into the living room, I find my Judas. “I am going to kill you.”

Auden blinks, a Dorito poised at her mouth. “Simmer down, Bruce Banner. Use your words. Just because I had a dentist appointment and left school earl–“

I clench and unclench my fists, wadding up my teal dress. “You had no right to post that video.”

My sister rolls her eyes, reaching for another chip. “Why are you having such a cow? You posted it on YouTube. Did you not think people were going to watch it?”

I bite down on my bottom lip, suppressing it from quaking. “I was forced to post it, thanks to your big mouth. That song was meant to be ours. I’m sick and tired of people assuming they understand it.”

“And by ours, you mean yours and Sawyer’s?”

I avoid her stare, squinting to barricade the tears.

“You know, there’s more to life than Sawyer, Emery. ‘Amos and Adeline’ means a lot to me, too. It’s when you finally sang again. It’s a sweet song about Grandma and Grandpa. I shared it on Facebook because it’s Grandpa’s birthday,” she spits, berating my confidence lower. “Did you even remember? Or are you too caught up on Sawyer to care?”

A sob catches in my throat, the words blubbering out of me. “That song was one of the only things I have left of him that–“

“Look, I don’t know what all happened that night, but it’s in the past now. I don’t care what either of you said. The time y’all had together, I don’t know why it was so short. But you have to live the rest of your life.”
