Christian Songs That Help Calm My Anxiety

In the midst of an anxiety attack, nothing helps me more than cranking up worship music. Here are a few songs I recommend that help fight anxiety, remind me that God is in control, and offer reassurance that He will never leave nor forsake us. ❤

Note: I apologize if the artists I’ve credited for the songs are not the original artists. These are the first artists I heard sing the songs.

Way Maker by Leeland

I first heard this song a couple years ago when my husband and I joined a new church soon after we got married. I never grow tired of hearing this song, because I love how it reminds us of who God is: the Way Maker, the Miracle Worker, the Promise Keeper, the Light in the Darkness, and how by being all those things, He is sovereign over everything, including whatever is causing us to be anxious.

I Speak Jesus by Charity Gayle

I also heard this song for the first time a couple years ago at church, and this song nearly brings me to tears each time our congregation sings it. I love how specific the lyrics are in directly calling out anxiety, depression, addiction, etc. and boldly affirms that Jesus will bring us peace when we take these concerns to Him and allow Him to fight our battles.

Walk by Faith by Jeremy Camp

My favorite Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 5:7, which is the verse this song is named after. This song reminds me that truly walking by faith means we rely on God totally, believing everything He says in the Bible is true, maintaining faith in His promises, and trusting Him in all things. When troubling times hit, listening to this song helps shift my focus from the problem to the Problem Solver, and realize that I’m the safest I’ll ever be in His hands.

Goodness of God by Bethel Music

Woo, this one makes me want to cry too! I’m thankful God allows me to get this song stuck in my head sometimes, because I love the truth of the lyrics, which remind us how faithful God has been to us all our lives, how He’s never left us even in the darkest times. Lately, when I’ve been anxious over different things, I’ve repeated these lyrics to myself, and felt His peace encompass me.

He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands by Various Artists (Wikipedia says this is a traditional African American spiritual)

You Can Rest by Hillary Scott

I bawled the first time I heard this song. I was in the midst of a bad anxiety attack, and had Pandora playing on our TV at our house, and this song came on, reminding me I can simply rest in Jesus. Sometimes, all we can do is call out His name, and He still hears and understands all we need in that. Yeah, now I’m crying writing this…

Make it Through by Leanna Crawford

I recently discovered this song, and have been loving it! Even though this song discusses stress and anxiety, it’s an upbeat reminder that no matter what we’re going through, that as long as we’re seeking God and trusting Him, we’re going to make it through.

Do you listen to any of these songs? If so, which are your favorites?

If you have any more recommendations, please drop them in the comments! I love finding new Christian artists to listen to. ❤

Aim high, stay strong, and always hit your mark.

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.

  1. “I speak Jesus” is one of my absolute favorite worship songs (I may be the weirdo in the crowd who cheers when I hear its intro…). Charity Gayle sings it so beautifully and powerfully, and yes, the lyrics are incredible. I love how boldly it calls out the very real struggles we face today. Such a touching song. “The Goodness of God” is another favorite in our house, and we’ve been LOVING “Holy Forever” by Chris Tomlin lately. It truly takes you into a space of full worship of God’s majesty.

    1. Sounds like we have similar taste in music! 🙂 I’ll have to check out “Holy Forever”. I may have heard it before and didn’t realize what it was called, but I’m not sure if I’ve heard it or not.

  2. Here are my fave worship songs: Travis/Lily Cotrell “What a Beautiful Name/Agnus Dei”, Cortney Patton “Take Your Shoes Off, Moses” (bluegrass), “Holy Water” (Tasha Cobbs Leonard, etc.) (she reminds me of Aretha Franklin).
