Poem: What Do You Want From Me?

Good afternoon everyone! A few months ago, I was struggling with how my novel’s success (or lack thereof) was going. I’ve always felt that God’s called me to be a writer for His glory, but it was beginning to seem that I wasn’t cut out to be a successful author. The following poem came at a moment when I questioned God about what He wants me to do with my life:

What Do You Want From Me?

WhatDoYouWantFromMe

What do You want from me?
Is it really to watch seconds pass by?
My misery, the time I could be using for Your glory.

What do You want from me?
I saw this cracked door,
Kicked it open and just craved more.
Is this what you want from me?

Satisfaction has fled me
In this insanity.
All I am is waiting, waiting, waiting
To find what they want from me.
What do You want from me?

Sadness overtakes me
As I lie about everything.
I’m not doing well.
I’m not okay.
I know I’m meant for more
Beyond this depressing grave.
What do You want from me?
Show me who I should be.

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.
