Good afternoon, Arrowheads! A couple weeks ago, I posted a review for the first installment of Sarah Addison-Fox’s Allegiance series, Disowned. As amazing as it was, I dove right into its sequel, Dissemble, which I’ll be reviewing today!
While Disowned quietly introduces readers to the countries of Kyraena and Etraea, the war, and the lovely characters, Dissemble takes all the previous information and floors the gas into an unforgettable tale of adventure! Celeste has done what she believes is best for the Haynes family, only to find herself in increasing danger. Little does she know that her knight in shining armor is on the way… and it. Gets. GOOD.
We get to see Celeste break from her guarded shell in this installment and watch her develop from a mediocre secret agent into a kick-butt heroine! We also get to see some ships start sailing, if you know what I mean *wiggles eyebrows*! The introduction of Torrance and Amaya lead to increased action and much more fangirling, as you’ll go from repulsed by them to adoring them in just a few short chapters. The author’s well-placed and sneaky plot twists will leave you biting your nails to the quick with each page turn.
On Goodreads, the author has posted an advisory message that Dissemble is rated 15+ due to the use of mild language and violence. I agree with her rating, as there are also some suggestive scenes as well, though it is implied as apart of Celeste’s mission and not something the main characters wish to indulge in. I also appreciate the author’s choice of the main characters remaining pure and actively abstaining from tempting situations. We need more of this in modern literature!
Overall, I’m giving Dissemble ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars, as it vastly improved upon the already amazing Disowned! I can’t wait to read the next book, Dissociate, coming May 2018!
Next up on my to-read list (at the time of writing this post) is Castaways by Jes Drew! I can’t wait to dive into this survival story!
