Good afternoon, Arrowheads! Here we are for yet another book review… but this is the first one I’ve ever done for a superhero novel! š I’m super (excuse the puns XD) excited to share with y’all today a review forĀ The Time I Saved the Day (The Ninja and Hunter series #1) by Jes Drew. Jes Drew is also the author of theĀ Castaways series, which is equally as amazing. So, let’s get on to the review!

Alright, yāall know I love Jes DrewāsĀ CastawaysĀ series (in fact, Iām reading the last installment now as I write this review!), so I was excited whenĀ The Time I Saved the DayĀ was available for free on Kindle a couple weeks ago as apart of the authorās summer promotion series. Before reading, I wasnāt sure what to expect. While I loveĀ The Incredibles, some of theĀ SpidermanĀ movies, and have watched a few Marvel movies, superheroes arenāt my go-to entertainment choice. However, this first installment inĀ The Ninja and Hunter SeriesĀ makes me rethink my hesitation toward the superhero realm, as it depicts supers from a new point of view: that of a fourteen-year-old girl who unexpectedly gains powers.
I donāt want to spoil anything, but I do want to overview the things I loved most about the novel:
⢠The Creativity: The way Charisa develops her powers was a super (ha, no pun intended) choice by the author. Though it’s not a common method (as far as I know) in superhero stories, it works and is rather intriguing. I canāt wait to see where this aspect takes us next in the remaining two installments.
⢠Andrew: Even though heās a side character, I loved this weirdo⦠and his hobo suit! XD That scene was perfect.
⢠Courtney: I LOVED that we have a character who uses a wheelchair. This is something that we donāt see represented often in books, and I applaud the author for her choice to include a character who uses one. Plus, Courtney is so sweet and full of sunshine!
⢠The Relatability: This novel is a true-blue YA novel with super (pun intended this time) qualities. Teens will easily relate to Charisa and her friends.
⢠TheĀ CastawaysĀ Cameo: If youāve readĀ Castaways, the main character makes an appearance. I love cameos between novels by the same author, so this was an added bonus to the already great book!
⢠The Superhero Element: And, last but not least, the superhero element was fun to read about. Iāve never read/nor heard about a teenage girl superhero before, so I think Miss Drew is tapping into a new market. The superhero scenes were well done, and I enjoyed watching Charisa figure out the depth of her powers.
The only thing I was thrown off about was the ending. The Kindle copy said about 10% was remaining, and then I flip the page and Boom! Cliffhanger. The ending provides a bit of closure for now though, so the ending wasnāt too sudden. Iām definitely excited to check out book two soon! š Overall rating:Ā āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø/5 stars.
