Being an Indie Author is HARD, and That’s Okay!

Being an indie author is HARD, and that’s perfectly okay! But, sometimes we need reminding that this path is worth all the difficulty we’re putting ourselves through. So, without further ado, here are some positive, indie author-isms to help you through the hardships of indie authorship! ❤

Being an indie author is HARD because indie visibility can feel like invisibility. BUT, THAT’S OKAY, because the indie community is supportive, endearing, and goal-driven. My time will come.

Being an indie author is HARD because we front the costs for everything, and rarely make it back. BUT, THAT’S OKAY, because we’re investing in our dreams and have a beautiful book to show for it.

Being an indie author is HARD because some readers consider us to be “wannabes” or “knock offs” of traditionally published authors. BUT, THAT’S OKAY, because thousands of readers on BookTok and Bookstagram have fallen in love with indie authors like Colleen Hoover and Emma St. Clair.

Being an indie author is HARD because our family and friends won’t even read our books because they’re “not readers”. BUT, THAT’S OKAY, because a perfect stranger on the internet will one day post that the book you wrote is their new favorite.

Being an indie author is HARD because most of us can’t do it as a full-time job. BUT, THAT’S OKAY, because every minute we spend on making our dreams come true will be worth putting that two-weeks notice in one day, reason for leaving being: to be a full-time author.

Being an indie author is HARD because we “make fools of ourselves on social media” in the eyes of others to market our books with no guarantee of sales. BUT, THAT’S OKAY, because it shows we’re truly putting our heart and souls into this dream of authorship.

Being an indie author is HARD because I can’t write and publish as fast as other people. BUT, THAT’S OKAY, because I know in my heart I’m publishing each book at its optimal quality, and at the best rate for this season of life.

My friend, being an indie author is HARD, BUT THAT’S OKAY, because nothing in this life worth pursuing has never been easy. If this is your dream, keep trekking the indie path. ❤

Talk to Me, Arrowheads!

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.
