I know, I know. I did an Editing Diaries entry last month and usually do a writing update on the alternating months. But, here’s the thing… I’ve done way more editing than writing in the past month, so this is what you’re getting. 😛
Don’t worry though, I’m back to writing now. This round of edits just took longer than I anticipated. Here’s why.

Tackling Big Scene Changes, One Salty Character, and Line Edits: August 2023
During the last Editing Diaries post back in July, I mentioned that I needed to adjust some scenes to fix the pacing in the last half of the book, and give one character an attitude adjustment because he was far too salty in previous drafts. Well, I’m happy to say I fixed all that this month, but it seems like it took forever!
Not only did I end up moving scenes around… I also ended up rewriting some scenes, taking some out, and adding new ones in. It was a bit of a hassle, one I didn’t even realize the manuscript needed until this round of edits. I pray that the next read-through will be better off for it!
Now for the character… their attitude adjustment was far less grueling to get through. I really don’t want to tell y’all who it was, because their old actions were so out-of-character for this person that I’m embarrassed about the way I originally wrote them in earlier drafts. XD
Anyway, once the big picture things were fixed, I moved on to the actual line edit notes I had made on my Kindle. Those were a breeze to get through compared to the former areas I mentioned. 😛
What’s Next?
I plan to do another read-through either in September or October. Honestly, I’m leaning more toward October because I’m kind of sick of The Dream right now after spending all that time editing (not with the story… just working on it!) and I really want to focus on On the Flip Side in September, because it’s SO CLOSE to being finished! So hopefully I’ll be back here at the end of October with another Editing Diaries update for y’all.
Talk to Me, Arrowheads!
Which type of editing do you like the least? For me, it’s moving scenes around, because ugh. -_-
Aim high, stay strong, and always hit your mark.

Yes! Rearranging scenes is so time consuming. I’m happy for you that you got through this stage! Enjoy your huge step 🙂 I was just rereading my favorite parts of The Fall this week, so I’m pumped to see what happens next in Emery’s story 🙂
