Yeah, I’m still not done editing The Dream.
Why’s it taking so long? Well, let me explain…

Round 6: The Infamous Word Search Edit
Y’all, the reason is this. THIS. RIGHT. HERE. ^^^
Should I have started on this round of edits earlier? Yeah, I should’ve.
But I did start it on January 6th… and almost two months later, it’s still not complete.
Have I been slacking off on editing? Some, but honestly, every time I’ve sat down to edit, I’ve spent at least an hour or more on removing those pesky crutch words, and, at the time of writing this, I believe I’ve edited for six or seven sessions for a total of 65% of the word search edit completed.
And there are still several words listed 300+ times that I am avoiding like my life depends on it.
I had made a personal goal to finish this round of edits by my birthday last Thursday. Let’s all laugh together, because that most certainly did not happen.
February is always a busy month for me, so I’ve had to squeeze in editing when I can. I’ve made a point to not let it interfere with my writing schedule, so finding those spare chunks of time where I also feel capable of making good calls on edits has been difficult.
Nevertheless, I am editing. Even though the steps forward have been minuscule, it’s still momentum.
Hopefully, by the end of March, this round of edits will be complete. Once that’s done, I’ll do another read-through, possibly reading The Crush, The Fall, and The Dream in order to make sure everything is copacetic consistency-wise, and then I’ll ask my author bestie (you know who you are! ๐ ) if she’ll have time to do an alpha read before I send it off to my editor.
Please pray for me to get this round completed before March. I really don’t want to drag it out any further than that. ๐
Talk to Me, Arrowheads!
If you’re a writer, how do you motivate yourself to complete tough editing rounds? What advice do you have for those of us who struggle with procrastination?
If you’re a reader, I promise I’m doing my best to get this book out this year. Please be patient with me. I love y’all, and thank you for your support. โค
Aim high, stay strong, and always hit your mark.

The best thing for me is always just setting aside a specific time and forcing myself to work on editing (or writing or planning or wherever I am in the process). It forces a level of intentionality where otherwise I’d just meander around and never really work on it. Good luck with your edits! It definitely can be tricky down in those trenches, but the battle will soon be over ๐

I need to do better about setting a specific time to edit. Lately, I’ve just been hoping I’ll have time, and then something else comes up. Thank you for the encouragement, and thank you for reading! ๐

Baby steps, Allyson! Every tiny bit of progress in the right direction is still progress, even if it feels slow to you. You’re getting there, and God will give you the sanity to finish. Copasetic is a completely new word to me! Thanks for the new vocab ๐ Can. Hardly. Wait. to read The Dream ๐

Thank you for the encouragement! Lol, I’m not sure where I first heard that word, but I’m pretty sure it was from a movie or TV show. XD Yay, I’m so honored to hear that! ๐
