Will I Ever Write Another Series?

Since I published the final book in The Ballad of Emery Brooks trilogy back in December, you may be wondering if I’ll ever write another series. I’ve thought about this a lot, and this week, I’m letting you in on possible plans for the future!

In the Works: A Secret Project That May Become a Trilogy!

Surprise! In my most recent Writing Updates post for Follow the Arrows, I mentioned that I’ve started working on a Secret Project that has taken priority over Follow the Arrows for the time being. While I can’t provide any details on the WIP itself, I’ll give you some hints as to what this potential series may entail:

  • I’m thinking it’ll be a Christian YA Romcom trilogy of interconnected standalones
  • It’s set in the late 2000s/early 2010s
  • It involves characters I’ve previously written about
  • I’m hoping to release the first book in 2027… if I can get it written and edited before then!

Have any guesses as to what this may be about? Drop them in the comments! 🙂

A Potential Prequel Spin-off of The Ballad of Emery Brooks

My sweet little cousin is hands-down The Ballad of Emery Brooks trilogy’s number one fan! She’s read the books multiple times and has messaged me about them. A year or two ago, she offered the brilliant suggestion of writing out Grandma Adeline’s diary that Emery discovers in The Crush into a full-length book! This got the creative wheels turning for me, and not long after, I came up with a potential title: The Diary of Adeline Lockhart. At first, I entertained the idea of this being one epistolary book, set in the 1940s when Adeline grew up, but then remembered she had multiple diaries in the shoe box Emery finds. So, could this be a potential future series, maybe The Diaries of Adeline Lockhart?

It’s a firm maybe right now. While I’m head over heels in love with the idea, I’m not confident that I can do it justice. Tackling historical fiction scares the snot out of me because I’m afraid of publishing anything that’s historically inaccurate. I’m also afraid of contradicting any of Adeline’s diary entries Emery reads in her series, so plotting these books would involve a lot of research and rereading.

But maybe. 😉

As far as series goes, that’s all I have up my sleeve for now, y’all. If you’re a writer, do you prefer writing series or standalones? If you’re a reader, which do you prefer to read? Let me know in the comments!

Aim high, stay strong, and always hit your mark.

-Allyson 😀

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.
