Content Warnings for The Fall (The Ballad of Emery Brooks, #2)

While The Fall (The Ballad of Emery Brooks, #2) is a clean and Christian romance for young adult readers and does not contain any language or spice (sexual content), the book features tough topics that may be triggering to read. Below are spoiler-free and spoiler versions of content warnings for this book so that you can make an informed decision on whether you or your teen should read this book:

I consider The Fall as Mild+ according to the Book Cave rating system, for the following reason:

  • Sparse mentions of alcohol abuse (The main character’s best friend’s father is mentioned to be an alcoholic (he’s not a Christian) and she struggles with his choices)

Note on Language Before the 2024 Update: Before I updated the content in the book in 2024, The Fall contained some uses of the words “crap” and “freaking”, but those have been edited out in the current version.

Spoiler-Free Content Warnings:

The Fall contains tough topics tackled from a Christian perspective, including the following:

  • Heavy depictions of grief throughout after the main character loses some loved ones in Book 1, The Crush
  • Meddling family members (A side character introduced in Book 1 has a narcissistic mother who causes drama)
  • Combatting unforgiveness (The main character lashes out at someone she is struggling to forgive)
  • Struggling with faith in God after experiencing tragedy (The main character goes through this heavily in the first half of the book)

Content Warning Containing Spoilers:

  • The main character struggles with feelings of guilt when given the chance to move on to a new relationship after her original romantic interest lost his life
