Get to Know Me Writer’s Tag

I’ve been tagged by my good pal Penny Wood to do the Get to Know Me Writer’s Tag, so let’s get to it! 😀

Rules:

  • Link back to the amazing person who created the tag: Savannah
  • Thank the sweet person that tagged you: Penny Wood
  • Share the tag graphic below
  • Tag 11 other bloggers!

Appearance:

Name: Allyson Kennedy

Nickname: None, but I really don’t like being called Ally! 😛

Birthday: Same as George Washington’s. 😂

Hair Color and Length: Blonde and a little past my shoulders. Looks like hay. 😂

Eye Color: Changes from blue to gray to green depending on what I’m wearing.

Braces/Piercings/Tattoos: I had braces from 6th to 9th grade, but don’t want any piercings (not even my ears) or tattoos.

Righty or Lefty: Righty

Ethnicity: I’m gonna follow Penny’s lead and say country girl!

First…

Novel Written: Can’t Beat the Heart of a Carolina Girl. I began writing it the summer of 2009 and finished it in December 2010.

Novel Completed: Same as above

Award for Writing: 1st place in a Halloween Writing Contest in college for the short story, “Ember” (Part One)

Publication: Can’t Beat the Heart of a Carolina Girl

Conference: N/A

Query/Pitch: N/A

Favorites

Novel (That You Wrote): Speak Your Mind all the way. I just connect with the characters in it more than CBTHOACG, and the plot is a lot better than the fluff in CBTHOACG.

Genre: Contemporary YA

Authors: (Christian Fiction) Stephanie Morrill and Jenny B. Jones; (Mainstream YA) Sarah Dessen; (Indie Christian Fiction) Jes Drew, Sarah Addison-Fox, and from what I’ve read of The Summer I Saw Blue Peak, Penny Wood; (Children) Barbara Park (RIP); (Romance) Nicholas Sparks

Writing Music: I usually can’t write with music because I’m a lyric listener and it’s too distracting.😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Time to Write: *Laughs nervously* Whenever I have time…?

Writing Snack/Drink: Definitely coffee in the morning, preferably in a big mug. In the afternoon, it’s usually Doritos and Dr. Pepper.

Movie: Toy Story 2, Forrest Gump, Saving Mr. Banks (#TomHanksIsAllMyFaveCharacters), The Help, Rugrats in Paris, The Little Rascals, A Cinderella Story, Another Cinderella Story, Jack and Jill (Adam Sandler)

Writing Memory: Crying like a loon as I wrote the last scene in Speak Your Mind. Don’t judge me. 😂

Childhood Books: Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park, and the Babysitters’ Club/Babysitters’ Little Sisters.

Currently Reading: The Bachelor Missions (Kristian Clark #1) by Jes Drew, Autumn Eternal by Kyle Bagsby, The Bible, and sporadically reading See Me by Nicholas Sparks.

Writing: Focusing on my most stubborn WIP to date, The Crush. I had written 200+ pages of it starting way back in 2011, realized I didn’t like the direction it was going and have been replotting and rewriting it ever since. The most current rewrite is 10k words, and I’m expecting it to be around 60-75k when finished (Lord willing).

Listening to: The usual stuffs:

Jesse McCartney’s live Beautiful Soul album (not sure if that’s the proper title 😂) on the daily

Jonas Brothers also on the daily

Christian music: lately mostly MercyMe and Francesca Battistelli

One of my childhood country favorites: Diamond Rio

Future

Want to be published? Hopefully Speak Your Mind will be available in November! 😉

Indie or Traditional? I really like the perks of being an indie author (though it’s still a struggle some days) so as long as I’m able to write, I hope to stay indie.

Wildest goal? Outsell J.K. Rowling 😂 My wildest goal = also my least attainable goal. 😂😂😂

Now for the tagging of the peeps:

  1. Kate Willis from Once Upon an Ordinary
  2. Jes Drew from Pause for Tales
  3. Rayleigh Gray from Literature Approved
  4. Maddy from Maddy’s Digital Diary
  5. Anna and Pearl from their adorable new blog, Life Without a Latte
  6. KL + Pierce from klpiercebooks.com
  7. Sarah Addison-Fox from Disjointed Babblings
  8. Kellyn Roth from Reveries
  9. Tricia Mingerink from triciamingerink.com
  10. Amanda Tero from With a Joyful Noise

That’s it for today, Arrowheads! I usually don’t do (or forget to do) these tag things, so this was a fun experience! 🙂

Later,

-Allyson 😀

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.

      1. Aw, thanks Allyson! I can’t wait to share it with you too!!! 😊 And YES, the emotion is just so real and heartbreaking it’s hard not to just break down into tears! 😂
Do you have a sec for me to shoot you a message? Was gonna ask for some help with something, but wasn’t sure if you were busy.

  2. Loved reading your answers, Allyson! I can’t listen to music either when writing stuff. It’s just too distracting and I like to really just be able to sit back and listen to it. 😜 Thanks for nominating me!

  3. Thanks for the tag! This should be fun! 😀 Was definitely fun reading your answers! (I’m a lyric listener also. My current solution is film scores or no music at all, depending on my mood).
