Good afternoon, Arrowheads! Today I have the privilege of reviewing a devotional that is to be released today, entitled A Proverb a Day. Back in February, I received an ARC from the author, and I have enjoyed doing the devotional over the past few months.
This review will be a little shorter than most of my reviews, as I find it difficult to break nonfiction or devotional books down into sections for review. I don’t have much to compare A Proverb a Day to as far as devotionals go, as I’ve only read one other devotional so far, Unto the Hills by Billy Graham. Comparing this devotional to Graham’s, I did enjoy that the author added Reflection questions to the end of each day’s devotional, as they prompted a deeper self-examination that coincides with the devotional of the day.
A Proverb a Day is broken down into 40 days worth of devotionals, and each day covers one chapter of the book of Proverbs. Being that there are only thirty one chapters in the book of Proverbs, some days re-examine certain portions of previously read chapters to give readers a different perspective on the verses. I highly enjoyed this element, as it offers a closer look at verses in the chapter that readers may miss while reading the chapter in its entirety.
After reading the chapter of the day, the author offers a few pages of wisdom and her personal reflection on the chapter. This portion of the devotional helps readers to connect personally to the text and helps aid the readers in preparing for the Reflection portion.
Overall, I recommend this devotional to those who are wanting to further investigate the book of Proverbs.
Thank you to the author for providing me a free ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. A positive review was not required to receive the ebook.
Happy Release Day!
