Author Q&A Session!

What’s up, Arrowheads? Today, I’m taking a different approach, and I’m gonna let y’all do the talking! πŸ™‚

It’s been a loooong time (like, I’m pretty sure since the beginning of my author career… four years ago) since I’ve done a Q&A session here on Authoring Arrowheads, so today, I’m opening up the floor to any questions you may have!

I’ve just got a few ground rules:

  1. Don’t be creepy. Not that I think anyone would be, but I definitely won’t be answering anything like 1) My social security number, 2) My phone number, 3) My 401(k) information, or 4) My address. πŸ˜‚
  2. Personal life questions are welcome, but please be respectful. I can’t really think of a No-No example here, other than don’t ask how much I weigh. XD Depending on the question, I may also choose to answer the question vaguely in order to protect the privacy of my family and friends.
  3. Please know that it may take me a bit to respond to your questions. This post is pre-scheduled, and it goes up on a Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. I get home from my full-time job at 5:30 p.m., and often forget that blog posts have even gone up until WordPress sends me a reminder, so please be patient with my response time. I will try to answer any questions you may have by the end of the week. πŸ™‚

So, Talk to Me, Arrowheads!

If you have a question, or multiple questions, for me, please leave them down below! I look forward to chatting with y’all, and I will answer the questions as soon as I can. ❀

Aim high, stay strong, and always hit your mark.

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.Β

  1. Such a helpful idea! A few questions I have for you are:
    1. If you had the chance to traditionally publish, would you?
    2. What would you say is the best way to build your platform?
    3. Is there anything you wish you could tell yourself before you published your first book?
    4. Does it matter if Acknowledgements go in the front matter or back matter?

    Thanks!

    1. Thank you for your questions, Liz! πŸ™‚

      1. If you had the chance to traditionally publish, would you?
-Honestly, I’m undecided on this one. I think having other people to assist with cover design, editing, formatting, etc. would be beneficial and make the release process less stressful, but I also don’t like the idea of signing over the rights of my work. For that reason, I’m probably going to stay an indie author unless a traditional publishing company approaches me with a deal I can’t pass up (but I honestly don’t see that happening lol :P).

      2. What would you say is the best way to build your platform?
I’m by no means an expert at building a platform, as I still feel like I’m struggling almost five years in, but I’ve had the most success with Instagram when I’ve had time to contribute to it. Of all the social media platforms, I think it’s one of the best places to find Christian YA readers. πŸ™‚

      3. Is there anything you wish you could tell yourself before you published your first book?
-That’s a really good question! There are probably 100 things I wish I could tell myself lol, but the biggest thing that comes to mind is to not obsess over sales and focus more on creating content that honors God. That’s something I struggled with tremendously during the first few years of my author career, and it lead to a lot of doubts that almost made me give up on writing.

      4. Does it matter if Acknowledgements go in the front matter or back matter?
-Though I normally put mine in the back matter, lately I’ve seen more and more authors place the Acknowledgments pages in the front, right after the Dedication page. I think readers would be more likely to read the Acknowledgments if they were placed in the front matter though, especially in ebook copies.

    1. Thank you for your question, Kate! 😊 Earlier this year, God nudged me to take on a secret project to help me continue writing through this busy pre-wedding season, and I’m intending (Lord willing) to release it on my 5th publishing anniversary, in February 2022! 😊
