Editing Diaries: The Dream (Episode 2)

Hehe… I just barely did enough edits on The Dream to give y’all some updates this month.

Since there’s not much to write a preamble for, let’s get right on into the details.

If you would like to recap on the first Editing Diaries entry for The Dream, you can read it here:

Second Read Through/First Round of Edits – Read on Kindle (Cont.): January 2023 to March 2023

When I last left y’all in March, I believe I had 30% more of The Dream to edit during the first official round of edits. So, did I make good on my promise and finish that round before the end of March?

Yes! If I remember correctly, I think I finished that round the week before the first Editing Diaries entry went live, and just didn’t update the post to reflect that. My bad. 🙂

Third Read Through/Second Round of Edits – Listened to on Word: April 2023 to May 2023

It took me an entire month to make time to do so, but I finally finished the first listen edit for The Dream in mid-May, after starting this round in mid-April. This is just because I only have a handful of days in the week where I can get on my computer after work, since it can be slow, and I have other obligations to tend to during the week.

During this round of listen edits, I made line edits as Word read the book to me, and made some side notes of things I need to add or change before my next read.

What changes do I need to make? There are a couple of scenes that I would like to flesh out more toward the beginning. I also need to write in more appearances for Porter (I forgot to mention him at all! *facepalm*) and Jace’s cousin, Jackson, who I think y’all will love for his crazy personality. 🙂

Oh yeah… and I think I need to write, like, three songs about different scenarios Emery goes through. XD Y’all pray for me on that.

Current Mission: Complete All the Goals in Those Side Notes

I feel like I’ll probably be procrastinating on this for a while. XD

Honestly, it’s really not going to be that bad to go through and change some things. I just need the willpower to do it.

I mean, at least I’m not rearranging the majority of the book to and then adding 12k words like with the book that came before it… *Shudders* What a time. 😛

I don’t know why I’m hesitating so much, other than the fact I plan on implementing these changes during my normal writing time for On the Flip Side, which will hinder my writing progress on that. I finally got my writing momentum back, and I want to keep it that way. Still… I can’t publish another book until I finishing editing the book, so The Dream has to take priority sometime.

Anyway, I hope to have this list of changes completed, as well as another Kindle read-through completed, by the next Editing Diaries post. 🙂

Talk to Me, Arrowheads!

If you’re a reader, be prepared to shed some happy tears when The Dream releases! I shed some myself during the listen edit! ❤

If you’re a writer, what are you currently working on, and what stage of work are you in (outlining, writing, editing, or publishing)?

Aim high, stay strong, and always hit your mark.

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.

  1. Super pumped to read this update! Lol about forgetting to mention Porter – it’s funny when beta readers make comments like, “Who is this?” Like you say, facepalm 😉 Good job catching it early! Can’t wait to meet Jackson and read Emery’s upcoming lyrics!
