WIP Update: On the Flip Side (Update #7)

It’s getting real, y’all. The end is near. And after all these months of working on this WIP, I’m so excited to be sharing this update with you! So let’s get right into it. Is this thing anywhere near completed yet?

June 2023 (cont.)

At the end of my last WIP Update, I mentioned a situation that was causing me anxiety. I just want to preface this post by saying that, so far, the situation hasn’t worsened yet, but as far as I can tell, there’s no definitive answer either. But right now, dealing with it hasn’t been as bad as I previously thought. Thank you for your prayers. ❤

Now, back to the scheduled program. 😛

In June, I mentioned I was having trouble writing before finishing the outline. After I finished the remainder of On the Flip Side‘s outline that month, I ended up writing a total of 6,419 words for the month. During the last post, I said I’d be happy if I reached 5,000 words for the month, so at least that happened. At the end of June, the total word count for On the Flip Side was 63,689 words.

July 2023

But, did things improve in July? Hahahaha… no.

At least I had a good reason this time.

During July, I did another editing round for my next release, The Dream, which involved some heavy edits. After reading the manuscript, I immediately implemented those heavier edits, which took up the remainder of the month and even flowed into August.

Needless to say, I didn’t write much. The three sessions I managed in July brought forth 1,446 additional words to the manuscript, making the total word count for the novel 65,135 words.

August 2023

Again, edits took up the time I normally spend writing in August, so I didn’t get back to writing until August 24th. From then on, I squeezed in 6 writing sessions, with a goal of writing half my usual monthly word count (10k words is normal, so 5k). And Thank You, Lord, by the skin of my teeth, I was blessed to add 5,031 words to the manuscript by the end of August, making the total word count for On the Flip Side 70,166 words.

September 2023

This is when I realized that, HEY, GOOBER. YOU’RE INSANELY CLOSE TO YOUR PLANNED WORD COUNT NOW (80K). GET YOUR BUTT IN GEAR AND FINISH THIS BOOK.

So that’s what I’ve been trying to do. It’s been game on since the beginning of the month, and as of the day I’m writing this post (9/26), I’ve sat down for 14 writing sessions, and have currently added 7,637 words to the WIP, making the current total for On the Flip Side 77,803 words!!!!!!!

But… does that mean the book is close to completion?!

Methinks not, buddies. Why? Because as of right now, I still have six more chapters planned (albeit short ones). So, I may finish writing the book by the end of September, or it may roll into October. Either way, AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF THIS THANG IS ALMOST FINISHED. XD

And yes, it’s making me slightly unhinged. 😛

Please pray for me as I try to wrap this book up over the next week or two! ❤

If you’re a writer, how is your current WIP going? What stage are you at with your WIP?

If you’re a reader, I plan to do another round of edits on The Dream next month, so stay tuned for another Editing Diaries update!

Aim high, stay strong, and always hit your mark.

-Allyson 😀

As an author and blogger, my goal is to teach writers that there is a way to write realistic, thought-provoking, redemptive Christian fiction that honors God while not sugarcoating the realities of the world.
