Arrowheads, I’ve been waiting over 12 years for this day! 😀

On the Flip Side started as an idea in January of 2014 as I was walking through Katie’s shoes in a situation similar to hers, and as of today, it’s now released into the world as my seventh published book!

*Cue fireworks*

But seriously, I cannot stop smiling. I’m so happy to finally share this book with y’all!

First, a huge THANK YOU is in order for my early readers!

I’m thrilled to report that On the Flip Side‘s ARC team had a 100% participation rate across its six readers! I’m so thankful to each and every one of you who took a chance on this book. Your warm reception of Kennedy and Katie’s story has eased my anxieties about releasing a book that covers the dark topic of narcissistic abuse. Each and every one of you are incredible, and I hope you know you’ve made this release one I’ll remember fondly for years to come!

What am I doing to celebrate today?

Wildly enough, I didn’t take the day off to celebrate the book’s release day. For the first time since releasing my debut novel in 2017, when I still had to go to college classes that day, I didn’t feel the need to take time off.

Two years ago, The Dream‘s release was so chaotic. During the whole process of preparing to publish it, I didn’t feel excited. My old laptop was on its last leg, which made even the smallest publishing tasks take much more time than necessary. I was incredibly anxious and ended up not even enjoying the book’s release day–despite being off work–because an issue came up with the paperback and I had to temporarily unpublish it and get that fixed before making it live on Amazon again.

I’m relieved to share that this release has been the exact opposite!

While challenging at times due to the nature of editing a book, the rest of On the Flip Side‘s publication journey has been a breath of fresh air compared to my last few releases. I think that’s because I felt God leading me to take a more relaxed approach for this release.

For past releases, I was so concerned about marketing efforts and getting eyes on the books. This time, God’s brought me to the place where I’m not fretting about the book making enough sales to pay for itself or feeling as if I’m less of an author for not offering release swag or paperback ARCs to my early readers.

No, this time, I’m carrying the blessed assurance that God’s in control of whether this book sinks or swims. So, to answer the question of “what am I doing to celebrate this release?”: I’m praising God for allowing me to be the “ink in the pen of the hands of the Author” as one of my new favorite songs by Brandon Lake and Nick Jonas says, and for all He’s done in my life so that I’m finally at this place of surrender in my author journey. ❤

And now, for the main attraction!

My twin, Kennedy, spends her time surrounded by her friends and boyfriend, Harris, all while feeling nothing but alone. I’m the homebody who watches from the sidelines, the only one who sees the cracks in our shiny exterior, but everyone’s stopped listening to me, the “paranoid” one.

Because my discernment kicks off whenever I’m around Harris Sutton. Charming yet calculating, he’s far from the boy my sister thinks she’s fallen for. And I won’t rest until Kennedy sees the light.

Despite what Katie wants everyone to think, she’s no saint. Ever since she started going to church, all she’s done is harbor secrets, badmouth my boyfriend, and distance herself from the best friends she’s ever had. Including me.

Then again, as of late, can I trust anyone anymore? My “friends” pick apart everything I do. Harris ditches me for better plans. Lately, he’s always in a mood, and after finding the bracelet in his car, I can’t help but wonder if Katie isn’t as crazy as everyone makes her out to be.

I don’t tell y’all enough, but I’m so grateful that God has allowed each and every one of you to cross this blog’s path. Y’all are the sweetest audience and even though I’ve been hit or miss with keeping Authoring Arrowheads up this year (and replying to comments, because, whew, I’m terrible at being timely when answering those!), please know that I’m pumped to get back to the blog’s regular content. While there won’t be a post this Wednesday, as I’m taking a short break after this release, I plan to be back next week with a Christian Living topic that’s been on my mind. I can’t wait to see you then!
